In May, some 600 employees of Quicken Loans will occupy an additional 85,000 square feet of new office space in the 27555 Farmington Road building in Farmington Hills. Nothing exceptional about that until you realize the agreement to begin construction only occurred in the last week of March. A quick calculation yields design and construction at a pace of 15,000 square-feet plus per week, over a six-week period.
Synergy, known for its high-quality fast-track interior construction took on the challenge. Synergy worked closely with the owner’s representative, Daniel Pack and architect, Michael Blanek, AIA from Stucky Vitale to ensure the design intent was fully executed. Synergy Project Manager John Rembowicz leading the effort with direct support from Synergy Chief Operating Officer E. Pete Petrella and the entire Synergy team and alliance subcontractors to get the job done right on an extremely accelerated delivery schedule. Veteran Superintendent and fast-track specialist, Dennis Boyle ran the project on a day-to-day basis and coordinated all subcontractors. Boyle, has served in a similar role on many fast-track projects but the speed of this one stands alone.
“The client made a business decision to be in the office and fully operating by a set date to meet their business objectives,” said Petrella. “We excel at fast-track but this schedule was something of an exceptional case. I am very proud of our team performance in executing the work with precision and speed.”
Synergy work scope included demolishing and replacing the existing ceiling grid, adding a new lighting system, with elaborate drywall ceilings and soffit drops throughout the office space. Synergy coordinated the design/build and installation of a new fire protection system, energy management system for HVAC as well as carpentry, millwork and other elements for a complete office suite.

The project cost included operating construction crews on 12-hour shifts and also on weekend shifts.
