Your Generosity Helps Make Spirits Bright With 240 New Bikes
December 8, 2008
E. "Pete" Petrella, along with the Synergy Group, would like to thank you for helping make the dreams of needy area children a reality for the Holidays. Area children rolled through the Holidays thanks to the generosity of Synergy's contractors, friends, family and staff. With your help, more than 240 Metro area children enjoyed a party with Santa Claus, toys, games and pizza on December 10 at the Southfield Civic Center.
The best gifts of all may not have been the bikes given to needy children, but the smiles on the faces of the children, their families and everyone involved in the program sponsored by Variety the Children's Charity of Detroit.
"This event should always remind us to be grateful for what we have. A lot of kids have toys they may have played with just once. For other kids, these bikes are a dream come true. We at Synergy are glad to be a part of such a worthy effort and thank our employees, friends and business colleagues who helped us, once again, to reach our goal for bikes this year," said Petrella, who was warmly greeted by program hosts Diana and Glenda Lewis of TV station Channel 7.
Wayne County Airport Authority Airport Police and Homeland Security Training Facility
August 12, 2008
Executive Summary:
Synergy Group, Inc. was chosen in competitive bidding by the Wayne County Airport Authority to build three separate buildings in an Active Airside Area of the airport to provide long-awaited training facilities for airport police, fire departments and homeland security. The property also includes an area to be used as a driving obstacle course for training of first responders and emergency personnel.
WCAA Capital Improvement Projects AF20C, AF20D, AFO5I also known as Pistol Range Building and Site Work, Live Fire House, Rappelling Tower and Obstacle Course respectively were all built by Synergy Group. The training facilities were constructed on a 3.8 acre site on airport grounds. The total project cost was $3.8 million.
The Pistol Range Building is 9,000 square feet and includes multiple live-fire ranges for pistol practice by law enforcement personnel. The facility was designed to reduce noise, pollutants and provide for a contained and secure environment for pistol training. The building is a load-bearing concrete and masonry structure. It features a bituminous membrane roof on a steel deck and long span steel joists. Synergy as responsible for coordinating the installation of special gun range equipment and all aspects of the site construction including delivering a new electrical substation and service to the remote area.
Live Fire House is approximately 4,000 square feet, one-story building. The pre-engineered building was specially designed to house a ballistic wall paneling system and special demountable wood panel walls for replacement of areas damaged during live fire weapons training exercises. A special HVAC system was installed to clear smoke and GSR gases from the building.
Rappelling Tower. A five-story tower is adjacent to the other two buildings. The concrete and masonry structure was built with removable windows for the training of police and fire personnel to rappell and scale the structure for training purposes.
All three projects and the Obstacle Course were built on a greenfield site that required utility installation, extensive site grading and compaction testing.
The three projects were begun in the fall of 2007 and completed in 2008 adjacent to airport land where Synergy had built ARFF No. 300 (Airport Rescue Fire Fighting station) on a design-build basis with funding from the airport and FAA. The three newest buildings provide a state-of-the-art pistol range, a “live fire” building where law enforcement officials can practice with “pop-up and moving targets to provide realistic training scenarios. The last of the three buildings is a four-story rapelling tower for both law enforcement and fire fighters to practice ingress and egress for rescue and police emergency scenarios.
All of the projects were built adjacent to active runways and taxiways in secured areas of the airport grounds. All Synergy personnel and subcontractors had to undergo extensive background screening and training in order to comply with airport authority rules and regulations for construction activity in an active airside operations area. All subcontractors were required to be photo-badged or temporarily badged and escorted to and from the construction site within the AOA. All construction vehicles display a DTW card on the dash and signage of no less than 12-inches by 12-inches on the vehicle’s driver and passenger doors.
We further understand that breaches in security guidelines could become a threat to general aviation and will not be tolerated. We understand penalties for violating AOA security rules could result in penalties and fines of up to $10,000.00 per incident.
ARFF No. 300 --- 3,500 s.f. $2.5 million. Two bay fire station, expandable to five bay for fire-rescue aparatus.
